Chicago, IL--Indivisible Downtown Chicago issued the following statement
announcing its endorsement of Juliana Stratton in the Democratic primary
for U.S. Senate.
“We are proud to support Juliana Stratton in her campaign to represent the people of Illinois in the U.S. Senate. Elected as a state representative in 2016 and as JB Pritzker’s Lt. Governor in 2018, Juliana has a history of fighting for the most vulnerable in our community and a commitment to the ideals that bring our Indivisible group together: equality, justice, compassion, and inclusion.”
“A key differentiator to our membership is Juliana’s strong call for a leadership change in the Senate Democratic caucus and abolishing ICE. This advocacy shows that Juliana recognizes the grave authoritarian threat our nation faces from Trump and his MAGA supporters. The weak and ineffective resistance offered by current leadership is neither politically nor morally acceptable in this moment. The status quo must change.”
“Beyond the fight against authoritarianism, Juliana Stratton supports a slate of progressive policies including Medicare for All, a $25 federal minimum wage, a tax cut for middle-class Americans paid for by those making more than a million dollars per year, the John Lewis Voter Rights Act, restoring abortion rights, and removing corporate money from elections. This platform resonates with us and fits with the values that matter to us. When enacted, these policies will improve the lives of people in Illinois and across the country.”
To earn Indivisible Downtown Chicago’s endorsement, Juliana Stratton
cleared a multi-stage process, including earning a majority of the votes of
both Indivisible Downtown Chicago’s core team and active members in a
two-stage voting system.
